Landon Manwaring, 10th Utahn Arrested for January 6th Insurrection, Pleads Guilty

     Landon Manwaring had just set a benchmark for Capitol riot cases in his home state of Utah by becoming the tenth to be arrested when he decided to plead guilty to a single misdemeanor charge of picketing, parading, or demonstrating in the Capitol. While federal sentences are almost always well below the maximum, especially with guilty pleas, he could face up to six months in prison and five years of supervised release when he is sentenced. Manwaring joins a relatively small group of Capitol suspects who appear to have agreed to a plea deal before being arrested. An offer was extended all the way back in May, and he was only charged with a single count via information, the one he pleaded guilty to. Because most defendants who plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge are initially charged with two to five, this only further demonstrates that he, in all likelihood, was arrested after a deal with the DOJ was reached. 

     As he awaits sentencing, here are the statuses of the other nine Utah Capitol cases:

1. Janet Buhler, a music teacher from Kaysville, was sentenced to 30 days in prison with three years of probation and $500 in restitution after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of picketing and parading inside the Capitol on January 6th.
2. Michael Lee Hardin, a former homicide detective and Buhler's son-in-law, was sentenced to 30 days of home confinement with 18 months of supervised release, 60 hours of community service, and $500 in restitution. He has since asked a judge to terminate his probation early.
3. Bradley Bokoski, a 58-year-old from Eagle Mountain, was arrested in May 2022, as was his son, Matthew, who lives in Chicago. The arrest came after Matthew bragged about his actions online and then tried to downplay his actions afterward, implicating his father at every turn. Aside from the messages posted by his own son, Bradley was turned in by a coworker. His case is pending.
4. Gary Wilson, of St. George, was charged along with Knowlton with obstruction of an official proceeding and four related misdemeanors for entering the Capitol, berating police officers who were doing their job, and stealing an escape hood from inside the building. His case is pending.
5. Brady Knowlton, 41, of Salt Lake City, was charged with the same felony and four misdemeanors as Wilson. He, Wilson, and Colorado resident Patrick Montgomery all engaged in this activity as a group, while Montgomery faces additional charges for assaulting a police officer. His case is pending.
6. Landon Kenneth Copeland, an Iraq War veteran from Hildale with prior convictions for DUI and carrying a concealed weapon, pleaded guilty to assaulting police by pushing a metal barricade into them and faces an estimated sentencing range of 41 to 51 months when he goes before a judge early next month.
7. Jacob Wiedrich, a Salt Lake City man who stole a flag (which was ultimately retrieved) from the U.S. Capitol, was sentenced to three months of home confinement with three years of probation, 100 hours of community service, and $500 restitution for his actions on January 6th. He has since begun attending a trade school, but it appears he is still a lunatic conservative who believes in the Big Lie. 
8. Willard Peart, a Toquerville man who unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the county school board in June 2022, pleaded guilty to the same misdemeanor as the others mentioned and was given 60 days of home confinement with three years of probation with 240 hours of community service and $1,000 in fines and restitution.
9. John Sullivan, by far the most interesting and high-profile suspect from Utah (so interesting, in fact, that he has a Wikipedia page that you can browse if you feel like it), was arrested on a total of eight felony and misdemeanor charges for obstructing an official proceeding, civil disorder, encouraging other rioters to commit acts of violence, carrying a weapon on Capitol grounds, and lying to federal agents. His case is pending.
