Insurrection Detection Files Bar Complaint, Launches Petition to Disbar Trump Attorney Boris Epshteyn

June 2nd, 2024; Washington, D.C.-- Yesterday, Insurrection Detection filed a complaint with the D.C. Bar Office of Disciplinary Counsel against former Trump advisor Boris Epshteyn, a licensed attorney who participated in efforts to overturn the 2020 election on behalf of Donald Trump. Former Trump attorneys L. Lin Wood, Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Jenna Ellis, and Jeffrey Clark have lost or are in the process of losing their law licenses, and this complaint seeks to hold Epshteyn accountable. Epshteyn, a Russian-born attorney and political consultant, has a history of arrests for groping women at bars, is listed as "unindicted co-conspirator number six" in Jack Smith's D.C. indictment, and has been charged with numerous felonies in the Arizona fake electors case. The complaint reads as follows:

"Boris Epshteyn is a D.C.-licensed attorney who has served as an advisor to the former 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump. In this capacity Epshteyn unlawfully attempted to interfere with the peaceful transfer of power and the lawful counting of electoral college votes before and around January 6th, 2021. Epshteyn is listed as "un-indicted co-conspirator number six" in U.S. v. Trump, in which the defendant is charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States government, conspiracy against rights, and obstruction of an official proceeding and conspiracy thereto.

On December 7th, 2020, Epshteyn spoke with a co-conspirator in the case and emailed said co-conspirator, a California law professor who has since been disbarred, a list of attorneys who would be willing to help at the state level in an effort to convene and submit false slates of presidential electors for seven states to be counted during the joint session of Congress on January 6th. On December 12th, 2020, Epshteyn participated in a conference call with Trump and his co-defendants in which Epshteyn proposed inserting conditional language into the forged documents signed by false electors, language that ultimately shielded these individuals from criminal charges in Pennsylvania and New Mexico. On January 6th, 2021, Epshteyn stayed in a Willard Hotel "command center" with his co-conspirators and others aiming to stop the certification of the 2020 election results by pressuring Vice President Mike Pence to do so unlawfully and by utilizing the false electors scheme that Epshteyn had helped to orchestrate and that dozens of these false electors have since been charged with forgery-related crimes for.

Epshteyn has been indicted in Arizona Superior Court on felony charges related to conspiracy, fraudulent schemes and artifices, fraudulent schemes and practices, and forgery. Other unindicted co-conspirators in the U.S. v. Trump case have been pursued for disbarment by the Board, and these attorneys, like Epshteyn, have been charged with felonies for their roles in the same scheme. Whereas the law of the land applies equally to everyone, whereas all attorneys must be held to the same ethical standards, whereas the peaceful transfer of power is the most sacred principle that defines America, and whereas Boris Epshteyn attempted to dismantle that principle, Epshteyn should be disbarred with only the minimal delays offered by his right to due process."

In addition to the bar complaint, Insurrection Detection has launched a petition aimed at maximizing the public pressure to see this disbarment through. We ask that you please sign and share the petition so we can continue to hold Donald Trump and his cronies accountable for the damage they have done to American democracy. We will update you as the process unfolds.
